2008-15-01: Palm Beach County Corruption

As a veteran Palm Beach County Commissioner, Warren Newell was a vocal opponent of the successful 2002 citizen referendum effort to limit the commissioners terms to eight years in office. Now, following his guilty plea, Newell will likely serve his next 4-year term in prison. According to the Palm Beach Post, Newell was charged with "failing to disclose his interest in three deals that he advanced using his commission votes...Newell earned about $500,000 from the ventures." In opposing term limits, Newell stressed the value of his commission experience and he was right: Half a million bucks is a lot of value!
